The Advent, Junction Charity Thing, Me on the Radio
A lot of people complain about the lack of decent venues in Dublin, and they’ve got cause to, there aren’t many small to medium sized clubs in this city and the few we have aren’t exactly kitted out with the latest in hi-spec equipment. I’m not even that fussy, I just want a place where the sound is half decent and the decks don’t skip! The Cavern is one of the few small rooms in Dublin I feel suitable for a good rave-up, its slow curved underground metro station style ceiling, dark lighting and propensity towards being a tad warm are all key ingredients for a good nights dancing about like a loon. It’s not perfect though, my main problem with the place is its lack of a proper entrance, on weekend nights you normally have to negotiate an r n’b club happening in the upstairs Isaac Butts area. The Cavern is a nightclub that is hiding from people, but I find it’s worth seeking out!
This Friday and Saturday see two nights on down in The Cavern that I’ll be checking out. First up on Friday we’ve got a joint venture from Electric City and Test who have invented The Advent down to play a live set. Mr. Advent, or Cisco Systems Ferreira as I like to call him, was last seen up on the decks at the TBMC around the start of 2006. I remember Decal was supporting him, it was a pretty good show, but Cisco stuck to the techno mostly that night. This Friday I’ve been assured there’ll be a healthy mix of live electro action from the swarthy Portuguese lover (now I’m just making stuff up!) and to enforce this point we have DJ Simon Conway and The Unknown Galligandroid on support duties. There’s not enough real electro being played in Dublin these days in this author’s opinion so hopefully Cisco will deliver! If his set is anything like this live set of his from September last year I’ll be a happy robot boy!
Meanwhile on Saturday night those party hard guys at Junction are throwing a charity ball (he already told me what charity it’s in aid of but I forgot and have sent him a textual message asking him to tell me again because I’m an idiot). The line-up on Saturday night features Eddie Brennan, Peter Breen, Jeff Walters, Rory StJohn (he’s a real saint you know, I checked), Acos1 and Stephen Fry. Admission is 10 Euro in, don’t ask for a guestlist, it’s for charity! You earn more than that an hour! Oh, Rob just sent me a textual message back, it’s in aid of A.C.T. Homeless.
Also, in a surprise old school development, me and Daddy G(iles Armstrong) will be guests on Dan McElliotgtogthot’s radio show which is actually on the real radio (and not in the internet), it’s a pirate station broadcasting on 104.9FM. We’re on this Monday (the 30th of July) from 9pm until midnight, or maybe later depending on how much fun we’re having. I just asked Dan what his show is called and he says it’s called “The Anorak Jack Show”, I think he just made that up right now. Anyway tune in if you can, it’s pirate radio so you may not be able to get it everywhere in Dublin. I’ll be shouting pirate radio style slogans throughout the show for added effect.
That’s all the news I have today. Hopefully I’ll see some of you over the weekend, bye! Oh yeah, I’m still trying to figure out if I’m going with the old yellow website or the new black one, the yellow one has my face on it which is good for when I’m in some club and somebody recognises me and says hello. That happened recently in Malmo, Sweden which was pretty cool! Some guy off CBS recognised me! Cool eh? I’m really off this time so, bye!
