Busy busy busy! Work are sending me to Shanghai and then Taipei in a week, getting stuff organised made me neglect the site a bit. Sorry everybody! Here’s a brief list of electronic related stuff that’s in my head at the moment:
The death of ie-dance. Ie-dance is a mailing list for discussing Irish electronic music and events which I’ve been a member of since 1999 (it started around 1998). Unfortunately it seems to be dying a death, every second email seems to be an ad from some promoter for their gig (The Pod and Psychonavigation being the two main culprits) with no actual discussion happening anymore. I suppose in a way it’s partly my own fault. I want to encourage discussion I should participate more myself, but I’m too busy nowadays to give much time to this anymore unfortunately.
Chris Liebing tonight in the TBMC! The Electric City boys continue their Electric Shock series of nights, they’re up to number 11 now! I’ve missed a few recently so in order to keep my “special guest audience member” status I’m going to have to head into this tonight. Brian Sanhaji is playing live also and Dan McIdiot is warming up on the ones and also on the twos. (He’s not really an idiot, I’m just lampooning his second name which is ridiculously hard to spell for some reason)
Proper Electro In Dublin, No Way! Scott Logan rocked it down at Wax last night but Magnetize just pushed the rock that bit higher with a storming live set of proper electro. Man it’s been ages since I heard proper electro! It’s dying a bit of a death in Dublin unfortunately, it’s up to us to bring it back! I’ve got a video of Magnetize I’ll be putting up, actually I’ve got a load of miscellaneous nightclub related videos to upload, I gotta get on the case about that.
The Great Encode Begins I’ve started encoding all my records. “Encoding”, is that the word people use for this? I’m playing the records on my turntable and recording the sound as a wav file onto my PC’s hard drive. My flat is small and I’m running out of space to put all the records. As I record them I’ll be moving them down to my parent’s house in Mayo for safe storage. I’ve started on the less dancefloor stuff, but I plan on doing it all so eventually I’ll have to invest in some Serato/Final Scratch type deal-e-o. It’s slow work, I’ve done about 67 so far (a mixture of singles, EPs and double twelve inch albums). Only 2000+ to go! I’ll need another hard drive or two, storage space is getting cheaper nowadays so that end shouldn’t be a problem.
Technotic are still turning Fazers into a sweatbox One of the few (only?) regular hard techno nights in Dublin, Technotic are still doing their monthly thing, on the 20th of April Creation Old Schooler Fran Harnett tops the bill with support from Eddie Brennan, Stam and Dan McElleiglgitottotitootitittllttlltttitltltltlttttt. The last I heard of Fran he was doing that Music Technology course in Trinity where they teach you crazy stuff like Max/MSP and how to quantize a thousand children’s sighs. I’ll have to ask him how that’s going actually.
That’s it for now! I haven’t put up a DJ mix in a long time so hopefully this Sunday I’ll find some time for that. Hope you’re all having fun in the sun, see you soon!
