f(x) where x = your love

Last night I braved the Arctic Berlin winter conditions to see Jimmy Edgar play live at Berghain's little sister venue: Berghain Kantina. This was a joint venture with the Killekill club and Leisure System, alias N>E>D who runs the Littlebig booking company.

A good crowd made it out despite the snow, ice and minus 10 degrees C. Voltek and N>E>D appeared to be doing some kind of back to back DJing on laptops, mixing classic LFO track "Mentok 1" along with Autechre ("Pen Expers" and something off the Untitled album I think), Luke Vibert - "House Stabs" and lots of other interesting tracks I didn't spot.

Jimmy Edgar hopped on his own MacBook Pro at about 1:30am, starting off slow but funky and then ramping up to his signature "Midnight Star crossed with Dopplereffekt" style electrofunk. Playing live keys on a Moog Rogue and jumping on the mic every so often, he played quite a bit of either new music or old stuff I didn't recognise. Some of it was along the lines of his more experimental Private 1/3 and 2/3 on Semantica, but it was mostly the "Prince in the year 3000" sounds that got the crowd going, including the vocal version of the new "Function of Your Love" single and a personal favourite of mine "My Beatz". Hopefully he'll get more of this released in the near future! Here are some videos I took at the night:

Update: Jimmy Edgar has just uploaded a recording of this set over here: http://www.play.fm/event/killekillmeetsleisuresystem1. People don't even need to leave their homes any more! :o
