Happy 808 Day!

Happy 808 day everybody! Today we celebrate and honour the world’s best drum machine: The Roland TR-808. Produced before even midi was invented, the 808 was derided when first released but is now still one of Roland’s most sought after analogue pieces (along with the TB303). Like the Beastie Boys said back before they started collecting their pensions: “Nothing sounds quite like an 808″.
Here’s a video of The Egyptian Lover playing Barry Donovan’s 808 live in Kennedy’s (later on that night he autographed Barry’s 808 thus increasing its value by 500 Euro!):
And here’s a little snippet of my own baby: TR-808
Citinite Records are organising an 808 night in London tonight with 808 State playing! 08/08/08 night

Hi, donnacha gave me your details, my name is emmet, we may have given each other evil looks across a dance floor or in a record shop in dublin, to cut to the chase iam gona move to berlin and if its not any hassle for you, can you put me in the right direction, with regards to jobs and rental of flats/apts etc, I dont speak much german but have a ok understanding of it, i do a bit of dj’ing and i would be aware of and know some of the “haircuts” you mention on your page. I understand if you dont wana bother, but if you do it would be a great help. To put it this way i wana get the hell out of the aul sod and berlin is the city for me. tanx in advance

Zebbler - Nice video, I see you edited the sound a bit too!
Emmet - I found my apartment on http://berlin.de.craigslist.org/ but apparently the best site for finding places to rent is this one: http://www.immowelt.de/
As for a job, that’s trickier. The company I worked for moved me over here, so I don’t have any experience finding a job here, but from the people I’ve talked to it seems difficult to find decent employment unless you’ve got pretty good German, although there seems to be quite a few restaurant/bar/cafe type jobs going where you don’t need to be fluent. A good website for finding out more information on all this thing is http://www.toytowngermany.com, check the forum section, it’s dedicated to expats living in Germany and has a Berlin section where people are always talking about finding jobs and apartments etc.
Good luck with the move!
