Whose Bad Mix CD Is That?

Over on Littledetroit recently somebody posted the rather silly question asking who is “The Best Techno DJ In The World In 2007″, silly because of the wording really. It’s all a matter of taste after all, perhaps he should have stuck “Who do you think is” in front of it? Anyway there was a pretty interesting discussion where a few names popped up including Dave Clarke, Rob Hood and Claude Young. The appearance of Surgeon on that list caused a bit of debate, mostly of the “decks Vs Ableton” variety, an incredibly tedious argument which deserves to be buried as soon as possible.

So I’d agree with a few people on LittleDetroit, my favourite techno DJ at the moment is definitely Surgeon. I’ve seen him quite a few times recently, and he’s mixing in weirder and stranger stuff into more traditional techno, which is my idea of a perfect set really. So I wasn’t that surprised to see that his first official mix CD is being released on Warp Records this month, it’s called “This Is For You Shits” and boasts the following tracklist:

1. (intro) from tape archive
2. Scorn - Doors
3. DBit - Kero mix
4. Autechre - Laughing Quarter
5. British Murder Boys - Splinter
6. Aphex Twin - Vordhosbn
7. Paul Damage - Passing By
8. The Bug - Killer
9. Squarepusher - Red Hot Car
10. British Murder Boys - Anti Inferno
11. Throbbing Gristle - Persuasion (Motor remix)
12. Tony Rohr + Paul Birken - Lofishizzy
13. Cane - Fall
14. British Murder Boys
15. Aphex Twin - Ventolin
16. Scorn - Sleep When Home
17. Archae + Grovskopa - Elements (unreleased)
18. British Murder Boys - Father Loves Us
19. Curve - Falling Free - Aphex Twin Remix
20. Eight Frozen Modules - Datacasting
21. Brothomstates - Rktic
22. Monolake - Invisible
23. British Murder Boys - Don’t Give Way To Fear
24. Whitehouse – Dumping the Fucking Rubbish
25. Autechre - Second Bad Vilbel
26. Vex’d - Canyon
27. Scorn - Snow Hill
28. Surgeon - Klonk (part2)
29. British Murder Boys - Don’t Give Way To Fear
30. Monolake - Linear
31. Eight Frozen Modules - A Low Bite Riddim

It’s going to be a limited edition 1000 CD run (apparently that’s pretty limited in the CD world, although nowadays a run of 1000 vinyl pressings is probably the norm, at least for most of the smaller indie labels out there) exclusively available from Warp Record’s Warpmart online shop. I can’t remember the last time I bought a CD but I’ll be digging out the credit card for this one!

Apparently it’s been delayed until the new Warpmart website is unveiled.
